Founded by husband-and-wife team Javier and Christina Cantellops, our company is built on a foundation of passion, expertise, and a deep connection to the sea.​
Our Journey
Our story began with a shared dream: to create unparalleled diving adventures that combine safety, comfort, and the spirit of aloha. After years of operating our own dive charter and restaurant, "Tortugas Beachside," in Costa Rica, we set our sights on Maui. Here, we had the honor of acquiring the esteemed Mike Severns Diving, ushering in a new era as Island Style Diving. Our mission is to continue and elevate the legacy of exceptional diving experiences in Maui's pristine waters
Meet the Founders
Javier Cantellops
Javier Cantellops is the Head Captain and Master Dive Instructor behind Island Style Diving’s elite ocean experiences. A certified PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer, PADI Level Two Freediving Instructor, U.S. Coast Guard Master Captain, and seasoned spearfishing guide, Javier’s expertise runs as deep as the waters he explores.
A graduate of Discovery Diving’s intensive nine-month Instructor Development program, Javier holds every PADI certification and has spent over a decade as a professional diver. His background as a former Special Operations Airborne Ranger instilled an unshakable commitment to safety and precision—qualities that define every charter he leads.
For the past seven years on Maui, Javier has guided thousands of dives, trained countless students, and explored nearly every reef, wreck, and volcanic outcropping around the island. He’s encountered whale sharks, manta rays, and everything in between—with a library of thrilling, real-life dive stories to match.
Known for his charisma, storytelling, and the infectious energy he brings to every trip, Javier’s motto is simple and non-negotiable:
“Safe. Fun. In that order.”
If both aren’t possible, the dive doesn’t happen.

Meet the Founders
Christina Cantellops
Christina Cantellops is Island Style Diving’s extraordinary lead guide, co-captain, and the soul of our operation. With a rich background in marine science and years of hands-on dive experience, she brings both depth and warmth to every charter.
A certified PADI Divemaster and U.S. Coast Guard Master Captain, Christina also serves as Vice President of Sting J Maui Wetsuits and Apparel. Her academic foundation in Marine Biology is complemented by her work as an aquarist at the North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores and the Maui Ocean Center—where she’s cared for and studied everything from sharks and rays to the most delicate reef dwellers.
Renowned for her sharp eye and passion for discovery, Christina is known for spotting rare and elusive marine life most divers never see. Nudibranchs, cryptic fish, and unique behaviors—she finds them, names them, and shares their stories with infectious enthusiasm. Her intimate knowledge of reef ecology transforms every dive into an immersive learning experience.
For over five years, she’s been guiding divers across Maui’s vibrant reefs, captivating both first-timers and seasoned explorers with her insight, calm leadership, and an unforgettable library of ocean encounters—from whale sharks and pelagic mantas to playful dolphin pods.
Whether she’s leading the dive or taking the helm, Christina brings grace, knowledge, and aloha to every moment on the water.
